Boeing Wins $20 Billion Contract for Next-Generation Fighter Jet

The U.S. Navy has awarded Boeing a contract worth over $20 billion to develop its sixth-generation carrier-based fighter, the F/A-XX.

The contract is for the full-scale development phase of the program, which aims to create a new generation of fighter jets capable of dominating contested airspace and delivering a decisive combat advantage for the warfighter.

Mike Duffey, undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment, said that F/A-XX will 'dominate contested airspace, extend operational reach, and deliver a decisive combat advantage for the warfighter.'

The Navy expects the F/A-XX to perform multiple duties in the carrier air wing, replacing the Boeing F/A-18E/F fighter and EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft beginning in the 2030s.
