Boeing Wins $20 Billion Contract for US Navy's Next-Generation F/A-XX Fighter
Boeing has won the contract to build the US Navy's next-generation F/A-XX fighter, worth $20 billion for the full-scale development phase. The selection marks a significant milestone for Boeing, which has now secured contracts for sixth-generation fighters across both the Air Force and Navy.
The new fighter is expected to replace the aging inventory of F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers beginning in the 2030s and will be interoperable with manned and unmanned platforms such as Collaborative Combat Aircraft. The F/A-XX's extended range will provide power projection from US carriers, allowing for greater operational reach.
The contract was awarded after Boeing beat out Northrop Grumman in late-stage negotiations, and the company is expected to deliver multiple test aircraft for ground, airworthiness, systems, and weapons integration testing. The F/A-XX will be a critical pillar in the Navy's commitment to maintaining peace through strength, according to Under Secretary of Defense Michael P. Duffey.
