Boeing Wins $20 Billion Contract for US Navy's Sixth-Generation Fighter Jet
The US Navy has awarded Boeing a contract worth over $20 billion to produce its sixth-generation carrier-based fighter jet, the F/A-XX Strike Fighter.
The aircraft will be part of the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program and is expected to enter service in the early 2030s.
Boeing beat out Northrop Grumman for the contract, which had been speculated about for months. The company has a long history of producing naval aircraft, including the F/A-18 Hornet.
The F/A-XX will be used to replace the legacy F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and EA-18G Growler electronic warfare (EW) aircraft.
