The US Air Force has awarded Boeing a $75 million contract to acquire the BSU-111/B Payload Delivery Unit for the Joint Direct Attack Munition Long Range (JDAM LR) program.

This move clears the way for initial production, with Boeing set to begin manufacturing units at its St. Charles, Missouri site.

The JDAM LR system has already completed its first two flight tests off the coast of California, demonstrating its ability to travel over 300 nautical miles while carrying a 500-pound payload.

Captain Sarah Abbott, program manager for Precision Strike Weapons, said that the new capability will allow pilots to engage targets from safer distances, maintaining a tactical advantage in contested environments.
