Boeing Wins $75M Contract for Turbocharged Guided Bomb
The US Air Force has awarded Boeing a $75 million contract to produce its new long-range guided bomb, known as the GBU-75.
The GBU-75 pairs a 500-pound-class JDAM warhead with a wing kit and a compact turbojet engine, allowing it to travel over 300 nautical miles. This is a significant increase in range compared to earlier JDAM variants, which had a maximum range of around 40 nautical miles.
Boeing has invested nearly $100 million of its own funds into developing the JDAM LR program before this contract arrived. The company says it will deliver long-range precision strike at a lower cost, according to Bob Ciesla, vice president of Boeing Precision Engagement Systems.
