Boeing Wins Contract for MQ-25A Stingray Drones at Lower Than Expected Price
Boeing has been awarded a $552 million contract to deliver three MQ-25A Stingray drones, also known as tanker drones, to the U.S. Navy.
The contract includes advance purchases of parts for three additional aircraft and marks a significant milestone in the development of the drone, which is designed to refuel fighter jets at sea.
According to estimates from the Government Accountability Office, the total program cost to build 76 drones was initially forecasted to be $15.8 billion, or approximately $207 million per drone.
However, with this latest contract, it appears that Boeing may be able to deliver the Stingray at a price lower than expected, potentially saving the Navy around 10% on each aircraft.
