Boeing Wins FAA Exemption to Sell More 777F Freighters Past Emissions Rules

Boeing has received a waiver from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to continue selling its 777F freighters after new emissions rules take effect in 2028. The FAA approved the waiver, citing strong customer demand and a delay in the certification of Boeing's next-generation plane, the 777-8F.

The 777F is currently the only large widebody freighter in production, and its sales were set to be barred by the new emissions rules. Without this exemption, Boeing would have faced a significant gap in freighter production, which could have cost more than $15 billion in US exports.

Boeing estimates that each 777F aircraft sold contributes $440 million to a positive US trade balance. The company expects to deliver the first 777-8F approximately two years after the first delivery of the 777-9, which is currently targeted for 2027.
