Boeing's 737-7 Airliner Receives FAA Certification
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted Boeing an amended type certificate for its new 737-7 airliner, clearing it for commercial service.
This certification comes after a multi-year effort by Boeing to demonstrate that the airplane meets all commercial aviation regulations. The test program included over 1,000 hours of flight and ground testing, extensive system safety analysis, and human factors reviews.
The 737-7 is the smallest and longest-range member of the 737 MAX family, offering 135 to 160 seats in a two-class configuration with a range of up to 3,800 nautical miles. It also reduces fuel use and CO2 emissions by 20 percent and noise footprint by 50 percent compared to its predecessors.
Boeing's president and CEO of Commercial Airplanes, Stephanie Pope, said the certification validates the rigor of the airplane's design and recognizes the determination and resilience of the 737 MAX development team.
