Stock Market Reaches New Heights as AI-Linked Companies Boost Earnings
The US stock market saw significant gains on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 reaching record highs. The boost was largely attributed to earnings reports from AI-linked companies such as Palantir and Caterpillar, which exceeded expectations.
Palantir Technologies rose nearly 30% after increasing its annual revenue forecast, while Caterpillar jumped about 6% following a similar move by the company. These gains made significant contributions to the Dow's overall increase of 1.88%, with the S&P 500 rising 1.9% and the Nasdaq Composite jumping 2.69%.
The drop in crude prices, which fell about 5% on hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the Iran conflict, also played a role in the stock market's surge. This decrease in oil prices led to lower expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike in September and a corresponding retreat in U.S. Treasury yields.
Jack Ablin, chief investment strategist at Cresset Capital Management, noted that investors seemed unconcerned about various factors such as interest rates, equities, and oil prices. However, he expressed some skepticism about the significance of these earnings reports, stating 'I don't sense one ounce of skepticism among investors, from oil to interest rates to equities.'
