Boeing's 737 MAX 10 Certification Delayed Over Software Issue
The certification of the Boeing 737 MAX 10 has been delayed due to a software issue affecting some aircraft. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is not approving the largest member of the MAX family until it is satisfied that the problem has been resolved.
The fault can arise during a go-around, when pilots abandon a landing attempt and climb away. In a particular scenario involving a change to the planned flight path, the affected software may prevent the crew from using automated vertical flight guidance.
Boeing says it is developing a permanent software update and has informed operators about the issue. The FAA plans to convene a Corrective Action Review Board to assess whether the fault presents an unacceptable safety risk and whether further action is needed for aircraft already in service.
