Boeing's 737 MAX Hit by New Software Glitch That Disrupts Automated Flight Guidance

Boeing has identified a previously undisclosed software glitch affecting the 737 MAX that could cause pilots to lose access to automated flight guidance during a specific landing situation.

The issue is linked to a cockpit software update and affects an automated navigation feature used during landing. When a flight crew changes its planned flight path after a missed approach, pilots may no longer have access to automated flight guidance.

Boeing said it informed all 737 operators last month about the software issue and reinforced existing pilot procedures for safely dealing with such situations. The company's engineers are working on a software update that would permanently address the problem.
