Boeing's 737 Max Navigation Issue May Delay Certification
Boeing has identified an issue with its 737 Max jet's navigation system that could increase pilot workload during landing and potentially delay certification of new narrowbody models. The software glitch can occur when a pilot needs to abort a landing attempt, forcing the autopilot into a simpler level of automation for pitch control.
The company informed all 737 operators about the issue last month, sharing information that reinforced existing pilot procedures for safely handling such cases. A permanent fix is originally slated for 2028, but Boeing is working to accelerate it.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has convened a review board to determine whether the glitch presents a flight-safety issue. If it does, certification of Boeing's new 737 Max 10 and entry into service of the recently approved Max 7 could be delayed.
