Boeing's 737 Max Navigation System Hit with Software Glitch

Boeing has identified an issue with the navigation system of its 737 Max jet that could increase pilot workload during landing. The software glitch, which may delay the arrival of new models, can occur when a pilot needs to abort a landing attempt.

The autopilot is forced into a simpler level of automation for pitch control, increasing pilot workload compared to standard mode used.

Boeing informed operators about the issue last month and shared information that reinforced existing pilot procedures for safely handling such cases.

The company is working on a permanent fix, originally slated for 2028, but aims to accelerate it. In the meantime, a bulletin is being developed for pilots at 737 Max operators.
