Boeing's 737 MAX Software Glitch Raises Safety Concerns
A software glitch on Boeing's 737 MAX planes has raised safety concerns for passengers and pilots alike. The issue, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal, can cause pilots to lose autopilot capabilities during landing, forcing them to fly the plane manually.
The glitch was discovered after recent cockpit software upgrades and affects planes that have missed their planned approach and had to change course. According to Boeing, the company learned about the issue in November 2024 but did not consider it a safety risk requiring a review at the time.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the issue and may take action if necessary. At least two airlines, Southwest and United, have asked Boeing not to install the problematic software on future plane deliveries and instead requested an older version of the software.
