Boeing's 777X Certification Delayed Amid Engine Issues, Production Challenges

Boeing's 777X certification is facing further delays due to issues with engine maker GE, according to CEO Kelly Ortberg.

The certification process may now push into next year as Boeing continues to work through the engine durability issue, which was first identified in January.

This is not the only challenge facing Boeing's 777X program. The company's wing shop in Renton, Washington, has not kept up with rate increases, and Ortberg said this could cause a snag for the next jump to 52 planes per month.

Boeing is also working to stabilize its Max production cadence at 47 planes per month but is 'constrained' in its wings production due to supply chain issues. The company has plans in place to address these constraints, according to Ortberg.
