Boeing's 777X Delivery Delayed Again to 2027

The Boeing 777X, touted as one of the finest long-haul aircraft in development, has hit another roadblock. Originally due to enter service in 2020, the program has slipped repeatedly and is now expected to fall into 2027.

The delay has cost Boeing billions, with estimates running into the low billions of dollars. The company has booked additional charges against the programme, adding to its financial woes.

No airline feels the delay more than Emirates, which has over 200 orders for the aircraft and is now expecting its first 777-9 in late 2026 or early 2027.

Emirates has taken a costly approach by taking Airbus A350-900s to plug the gap and pouring billions into retrofitting its existing fleets. The airline's president, Sir Tim Clark, has publicly berated Boeing over the repeated slips, while maintaining that the finished 777-9 will be worth the wait.
