Boeing's Autopilot Issue Affects Nearly 100 Indian 737 MAX Aircraft
A potential issue in Boeing's 737 MAX autopilot system has been identified, affecting around 96 planes operated by Indian airlines. The glitch could cause automated flight guidance to disengage during a specific landing scenario.
Boeing informed all 737 operators about the issue last month and is working on a software update to permanently address it. Air India Express and Akasa Air together operate these aircraft, with Air India Express having around 53 planes and Akasa Air operating 43.
The glitch emerged from a cockpit software update and can occur when flight crews alter their planned flight path after a missed approach. Boeing has said existing procedures are in place to help pilots safely manage the situation while engineers work on a permanent fix.
