Boeing's Bill for Air Force One Overruns Hits $3.1 Billion

The Air Force One program has ballooned to $3.1 billion over budget, with Boeing footing the bill for cost overruns. The aerospace giant signed a $3.9 billion deal with the Department of Defense in 2018 to replace the aging Boeing VC-25A with two new VC-25Bs.

The initial delivery date was set for 2024, but production delays pushed it back to 2027. However, President Trump's return to the White House in 2025 created an unexpected issue: a president eager for a new plane that wasn't ready.

Boeing has now announced an additional $280 million cost increase, citing a 'ramp-up in production and certification resources' as the reason. This brings the total cost overrun to over $3 billion, with Boeing covering the extra expenses.
