Boeing's Chinese Deal Hopes Dim Ahead of US-China Summit
Boeing's chances of securing new major orders from China are dwindling ahead of the upcoming summit between U.S. and Chinese presidents, according to informed sources.
The Japanese news outlet The Japan Times reports that negotiations over new contracts continue to shift, with Boeing having previously expected to secure commitments from China for several hundred more airliners.
In May, a preliminary agreement was reached for the purchase of 200 aircraft by China, which marked Boeing's return to competition in the Chinese market after being effectively shut out since 2017.
However, with the summit approaching, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg has lowered expectations for a new major contract, stating that retaining the order for 200 aircraft would already be considered a success.
