Boeing's Delayed 777X Jet Set to Enter Service in 2027
Boeing's delayed 777X jet is expected to enter service in 2027, seven years behind schedule. The world's largest twin-engine widebody plane will have over 400 seats and can fly up to 9,000 miles nonstop.
The 777X has a wider cabin than its predecessor and the competing Airbus A350, with a foot of added width achieved by thinner sidewalls and insulation. This means passengers get more wiggle room, even in economy class, where they can expect 18 inches of width per seat.
Airlines have placed over 560 orders for the 777X variants, worth billions of dollars, but some buyers like Emirates have expressed frustration with the cost of keeping older jets flying while they wait. Lufthansa is the launch customer and will be operating the plane in premium economy and business classes.
