Boeing's Delays Hit Revenue and Reputation Hard
Boeing's 737 MAX 10 and 777X programs have faced significant delays, impacting the company's revenue and reputation. The 737 MAX 10 was originally launched in 2017 but has missed multiple promised certification dates. Boeing's Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg stated that certification for the 737 MAX 10 is coming 'very soon,' with paperwork being the main holdup.
On the other hand, the 777X program has been plagued by engine durability issues and structural test failures. The program was originally set to enter service in 2020 but now faces a cumulative slip of roughly seven years, with estimated overruns of $15 billion and around 620 orders including freighters.
Airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Lufthansa have been impacted by the delays, having to rebuild their plans and potentially redirect premium cabin launches to other aircraft. Boeing's financials show a company on the mend, but fragile, with revenue rising 8% in the second quarter of 2026 and free cash flow turning positive.
