Boeing's F-15EX Contract: Reality vs. Hype
Boeing's $131 billion contract for the F-15EX fighter jet has been met with confusion, as many believe it represents a significant revenue boost for the company. However, according to recent reports, only $343,740 was funded at the time of the contract award.
The $131.23 billion contract ceiling is an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract that covers aircraft production, modernization, retrofits, sustainment, and depot capability through 2037. This means that future task orders will determine how much work Boeing actually wins.
Boeing's shares have been performing well, closing at $212.25 on Friday, up 0.81% from the previous day. However, analyst expectations remain bullish, with a consensus target price of $274.67, which represents a 29.4% increase from the current share price.
The production schedule for the F-15EX has been marred by delays, with only six of 12 Lot 3 aircraft expected to be delivered by year-end. The program is also facing issues with supplier shortages and redesign requirements, which could impact margins.
