Microsoft has announced Project Zenith, a new developer-focused Windows experience designed to offer a distraction-free environment for coding. The project is available on devices with at least 64 GB of unified memory and more than 250 GB/s of memory bandwidth.

The company said that Project Zenith will allow developers to run models with over 30 billion parameters locally without metered usage, potentially reducing reliance on cloud-based AI tokens. This could accelerate experimentation with coding models and help reduce costs associated with cloud token consumption.

Project Zenith comes preconfigured with a Windows setup and a collection of development tools, including the Windows Terminal and Visual Studio Code. These tools will be pinned to the taskbar by default, giving developers immediate access to commonly used tools.

The experience is designed to provide powerful systems that are preconfigured for modern development, while allowing developers to customize their systems around their preferred tools, languages, and frameworks.
