Boeing's F-47 Fighter Program on Track for Maiden Flight
The US Air Force's Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program is progressing according to plan, with Boeing working on finalizing the design elements of the F-47 fighter aircraft. Gen. Dale White, director of Critical Major Weapons Systems at the Pentagon, stated that the service is 'absolutely on track' to meet its target of flying the F-47 within two years.
The F-47 will replace the aging Lockheed Martin F-22, with the US Air Force planning to purchase between 185 and 200 aircraft. The program has benefited from 'many, many years in tech maturation and risk reduction,' according to White.
Boeing was selected to build the fighter in March 2025, beating out a competing offering from Lockheed Martin. Northrop Grumman had initially been involved in the NGAD program but withdrew in 2023 to focus on the B-21 Raider stealth bomber.
