Boeing's Flying Aircraft Carrier: A Vision That Never Took Flight

In the early 1970s, Boeing was tasked by the U.S. Air Force to develop an aircraft that could carry and launch up to ten microfighters from its interior while in flight.

This concept, known as the 747 Airborne Aircraft Carrier (AAC), aimed to provide a mobile airbase with capabilities of launching, refueling, and rearming fighters mid-air.

The Boeing 747 was chosen over Lockheed's C-5A Galaxy due to its better speed, altitude performance, and range, essential for surviving in hostile skies.
