Boeing's Second Offer to SPEEA Sparks Mixed Reactions from Union Members
Boeing's second offer to SPEEA (Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace) has met with mixed reactions from union members. The union represents engineers and technicians who have contracts negotiated by SPEEA with Boeing. The current contract is set to expire on October 6, and the first tentative agreement was overwhelmingly rejected by both union groups.
According to social media comments on Facebook and Reddit, some union members are comparing the current contract offers unfavorably to the 2024 final contract agreed upon by IAM 751. Others assert that Boeing has merely moved money around in the current offers compared to the original ones that were rejected by wide margins.
The technicians' Bargaining Unit Council (BUC) recommended rejection of the first TA, while the engineers' BUC fell short of making a recommendation due to a lack of votes. However, before the review, it was mentioned that the engineers may accept the contract, and the technicians' vote is too close to call.
The union members are set to vote electronically from Thursday until October 1, with results announced on the same day. Some union members have expressed concerns about wage stagnation vis-a-vis past inflation, while others have stated they will vote 'no' in solidarity with the technicians.
