Boeing's Stock Plummets Amid Software Glitch Concerns for 737 MAX
Boeing's stock took a hit on Monday after reports emerged of a software glitch in its 737 MAX aircraft. The defect can cause an automated flight guidance feature to become unavailable when pilots modify the programmed route after aborting an approach.
The issue was first reported by The Wall Street Journal over the weekend, citing a cockpit software update as the cause of the problem. According to Boeing, pilots may not have access to automated flight guidance during a specific landing scenario.
A spokesperson for the company stated that engineers are working on a software update to resolve the issue permanently and emphasized that pilots are trained to land safely without the system. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also confirmed it is working closely with Boeing and airlines, and will take immediate action if it identifies a safety issue.
