Boeing's Ultra Low-Cost Seeker Nears Deployment
Boeing has made significant progress in developing its Ultra Low-Cost Seeker (ULCS), a cutting-edge radar system designed to reduce per-unit costs and enable precision munition employment at scale. The ULCS has undergone rigorous testing, including captive carry, high-speed flights on a scaled-down rocket, and representative-environment testing.
According to Boeing, the ULCS uses commercial off-the-shelf components adapted for military use, making it modular, producible, and built with Weapons Open Systems Architecture to speed integration and future changes. The system has demonstrated its ability to survive acceleration and vibration and successfully detect and track targets in various environments.
Boeing is evaluating the ULCS for use across its integrated air and missile defense, direct attack, and cruise missile portfolios. The company aims to share a common sensor architecture across several programs, leveraging internal seeker-development and production experience.
