Zoox Rolls Out Paid Robotaxis in Las Vegas
Amazon's subsidiary Zoox has launched paid driverless robotaxi services in Las Vegas. The service, which was initially offered for free to limited destinations on the Strip, is now available across the entire city.
The vehicles, designed and built by Zoox, feature no steering wheels or pedals and can accommodate up to four passengers. They are hailed using the Zoox smartphone app and operate with a 'comfort-tier fare structure', which includes a base rate plus time and distance.
Zoox CEO Aicha Evans stated that the company has learned from nearly a million driverless passenger trips and is confident in its technology. The rollout marks a significant milestone for the autonomous vehicle industry, which has faced challenges in testing and deployment.
