Bold Color Turned Beige Living Room into Vibrant Family Space
Natalie Papier, a designer from Home EC., transformed her family's living room in North Carolina after moving from Chicago. The space was originally filled with beige tones and lacked personality.
Papier aimed to create a cozy hangout for her kids, who needed their own space in the new home. She hired professional builders to construct custom built-ins that would hold a dramatic display of shelves and storage units.
The hardwood floor was installed in a chevron pattern, and Papier designed the ceiling-high built-ins herself. The feature includes an arched accent at the top, a rail for a sliding wood ladder, and open shelves and enclosed cabinet space at the bottom.
Papier chose Sherwin-Williams' 'Hyper Blue' paint to add a bold touch to the room. She also installed a funky green-and-white snake wallpaper on an adjacent wall and mixed in vintage furniture with colors that complemented the blue shelves.
