Boston Dynamics Names Amazon Executive Rohit Prasad as CEO
Boston Dynamics has appointed Rohit Prasad, a former Amazon executive, as its new CEO, marking a significant shift toward scaling its autonomous robotics portfolio through AI advancements. Prasad, who previously led Alexa and AI initiatives at Amazon, brings extensive experience in developing and commercializing machine learning technologies. His role at Boston Dynamics will focus on transitioning the company’s humanoid robots from experimental phases to large-scale industrial deployment.
The move aligns with parent company Hyundai Motor Group’s ambitious plans to integrate Boston Dynamics’ electric Atlas humanoid into its Georgia manufacturing facilities by 2028. The long-term goal is to produce up to 30,000 humanoids annually, highlighting the company’s push into physical AI, where generative models merge with mechanical systems to navigate real-world environments.
Prasad’s expertise in enterprise software deployment and consumer-scale technology is expected to accelerate the commercialization of Boston Dynamics’ hardware lineup, including the Spot quadruped and the Stretch logistics platform. The company aims to build high-margin recurring revenue streams by integrating AI-driven software solutions with its robotic hardware.
Subject to board approval, Prasad will officially take over as CEO on October 7 and is set to join the company’s board of directors shortly after. This leadership change reflects a broader industry trend where traditional hardware development is increasingly giving way to AI-powered operational autonomy.
