Brazilian Microbusinesses Get €250 Million Boost from European Finance
A €250 million financing agreement between EIB Global and Banco do Brasil is set to mobilise €500 million in microcredit for around 50,000 women-owned and women-led microenterprises across Brazil's Legal Amazon.
The initiative aims to widen access to finance in a region where distance, infrastructure gaps, and uneven banking access can restrict the growth of small businesses.
For women running shops, production units, and other microenterprises, access to credit can determine whether they remain at subsistence scale or are able to invest, expand, and plan beyond immediate cash-flow pressures.
The deal tests whether large-scale development finance can reach entrepreneurs operating far from major financial centres and translate into stronger businesses, more stable household incomes, and greater local economic resilience.
