Buffett Says Four Right Calls Can Make You Rich in Investing
Warren Buffett shared an analogy from baseball to explain his approach to investing. He drew inspiration from Ted Williams' book 'The Science of Hitting', which includes a diagram showing that hitting .400 means swinging at only one's sweet spot in the strike zone, while hitting .230 involves also swinging at pitches outside this area.
Buffett noted that baseball players are forced to swing at pitches outside their sweet spots if they want to avoid being called out on strikes. In contrast, investors have more freedom and can wait for the right pitch, or opportunity, without fear of being penalized.
Buffett emphasized that he doesn't need to understand every business or sector and can be patient in waiting for the right investment. He recalled missing Amazon as a business he didn't understand at the time but later bought stock in it through Berkshire Hathaway.
