Burry Predicts Future Ghost Towns in Nvidia, Tesla, Caterpillar

Investor Michael Burry has warned that several high-flying tech and industrial stocks may turn into 'future ghost towns' once current shortages and pricing power fade. In a recent statement, Burry compared the boom conditions in these sectors to a gold rush, where temporary wealth and activity give way to desolate ruins.

Burry pointed out that there are indeed shortages currently affecting certain industries, with Caterpillar (CAT) performing 'unbelievably well' due to its role in data-center buildout. Palantir Technologies (PLTR) is also 'really filling acute CYA needs', while Nvidia's (NVDA) margins and prices cause 'nosebleeds'. Burry believes that these conditions are temporary and unsustainable, suggesting that once the frenzy cools, these thriving sectors will turn into hollowed-out ruins.

Burry has taken short positions on several tech giants, including Nvidia and Tesla, to hedge against potential downturns. He doubts how much AI-driven construction demand is already priced into Caterpillar's stock, having shorted it at $1060.98. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index's high extension above its 200-day moving average further supports Burry's view that the semiconductor boom is nearing its end.
