Burundi's First Lady Receives Prestigious UN Population Award for Healthcare Contributions

The Merck Foundation has congratulated H.E. Madam Angeline Ndayishimiyé, First Lady of the Republic of Burundi, on the prestigious 2026 United Nations Population Award in the institutional category.

Fondation Bonne Action Umugiraneza, which she chairs, received this recognition for its outstanding contribution to improving health, education, and well-being in Burundi.

Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation and President of Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative, said: 'I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to my dear sister, H.E. Madam Angeline Ndayishimiyé, First Lady of the Republic of Burundi, and to Fondation Bonne Action Umugiraneza on receiving the prestigious 2026 United Nations Population Award in the institutional category.'

The partnership between Merck Foundation and Burundi has achieved important milestones in healthcare capacity building. Through their collaboration, Merck Foundation provided 55 scholarships for Burundian doctors across critical and underserved medical specialties.
