California Man Accused of Smuggling $300 Million Worth of Nvidia GPUs to China
A California man has been arrested on federal charges for allegedly helping to smuggle over $300 million worth of export-controlled computer servers containing Nvidia GPUs to China without proper licenses.
The individual, identified as Greg Lui (also known as Yiu Kong Lui), owns a technology company called Earthmade Computer and is accused of conspiring to violate the Export Control Reform Act and Export Administration Regulations, as well as outbound smuggling and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Lui allegedly purchased 27 servers containing Nvidia H100 GPUs from an unidentified U.S. manufacturer for approximately $7.6 million in 2023-2024 without obtaining necessary licenses from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The equipment was then routed through countries like Malaysia and Singapore, where it did not require the same export licenses, before being re-exported to China.
