California Security Workers Authorize Potential Strike Over Pay and Conditions
14,000 security workers employed by major technology companies in California have authorized a potential strike over stalled negotiations on pay and working conditions.
The workers, represented by SEIU United Service Workers West, are employed by security contractors including Allied Universal, Securitas, and GardaWorld to protect offices of tech firms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, and Salesforce.
Despite months of negotiations and demonstrations in San Francisco, the unionized workers have yet to reach an agreement with their employers on higher wages, better healthcare benefits, more training, and improved workplace conditions.
The dispute highlights the employment realities of outsourced workers supporting some of the world's most valuable technology and AI companies.
