California Thieves Steal Nvidia-Branded Trailers Thinking They Held Valuable AI Gear
Two Nvidia-branded trailers, belonging to autonomous-trucking company PlusAI, were stolen from Fremont, California on September 23, 2026. The trailers displayed prominent branding reflecting their work with Nvidia in autonomous-driving technology.
However, instead of carrying expensive AI equipment or GPUs, each trailer contained about 20,000 pounds of sand. This simulated cargo is used by PlusAI to reproduce the weight of real freight during testing of its autonomous-truck cabs.
The trailers were later spotted in nearby Newark after an acquaintance of a PlusAI executive sent a photograph to the company. Authorities then recovered both vehicles and their cargo, which consisted of roughly 40,000 pounds or 20 tons of sand.
