Canadian Employees Fear Skills Erosion by AI, CHROs Disagree
A new study from IBM's Institute for Business Value has highlighted a disconnect between what Chief Human Resource Officers (CHROs) believe are essential skills in the age of AI and what Canadian employees prioritize.
The global study, which surveyed 1,500 CHROs and 8,800 employees worldwide, found that 62% of Canadian employees worry about their skills being eroded by AI. However, only 29% of these employees ranked judgement as an important skill.
Canadian CHROs, on the other hand, identified supervision, validation, and overriding AI outputs as the most essential workforce capability, with 68% of respondents naming it so. But again, there was a disconnect between what CHROs said were important skills - such as critical thinking (55%) and human judgement (49%) - and what employees actually ranked high.
