Canadian Employees Worry AI Is Eroding Skills as Critical Thinking Gains Importance
A new study by the IBM Institute for Business Value has highlighted a disconnect between the skills Canadian employees believe are essential in an era of increasing AI use and those identified by Chief Human Resource Officers (CHROs). According to the research, while 68% of CHROs consider the ability to supervise, validate, and override AI outputs as crucial, only 29% of employees rank judgment as important.
The study found that Canadian employees are more concerned about losing skills in areas such as critical thinking, with many worrying that AI is eroding their abilities. This disconnect between CHROs and employees has significant implications for the future of work and the need for education and training programs to prepare workers for a rapidly changing job market.
The IBM study suggests that there may be a mismatch between what employers believe are essential skills and those actually valued by employees in an AI-driven world. This disconnect could have serious consequences if left unaddressed, including reduced productivity and lower employee satisfaction.
