Canadian Politicians Slam Google Maps Over Lake Ontario Renaming
Canadian politicians have weighed in on a recent change made by Google Maps that saw Lake Ontario temporarily renamed to 'Lake America' for U.S. users.
The issue came to light when Canadian Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre took to social media to express his discontent, saying 'Google is wrong'. He referred to Google Maps as being 'the truth', implying the company's mapping data should be relied upon.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford also chimed in, referencing a recent trade dispute with the U.S. and stating that a tariff on Canada would amount to 'nothing more than a tax on the American people'. However, it is unclear how this relates to the Google Maps issue.
