Canceled Perfect Dark Reboot Gameplay Revealed in Leaked Clip
A recently surfaced video clip reveals gameplay from the canceled Perfect Dark reboot, showcasing weapons, traversal mechanics, and previously unseen zones. The two-minute footage, obtained by a VFX artist with experience in gaming franchises, offers a glimpse into what could have been for the project.
The Perfect Dark reboot was scrapped by Microsoft last year, despite efforts to revive it. Reports indicate that The Initiative, the studio behind the project, had been working on the game’s Vertical Slice 1 since April 2025. This playable proof-of-concept was intended to demonstrate the game’s quality and overall experience.
According to a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, there were discussions involving Take-Two Interactive and Embracer to finance the game, but these talks ultimately fell through. The cancellation was part of a broader corporate restructuring that led to the closure of The Initiative in July 2025.
While the reboot is unlikely to proceed under The Initiative, there remains a possibility that Microsoft could revisit the Perfect Dark intellectual property with another developer. With Xbox CEO Asha Sharma at the helm, the future of the franchise may yet be explored under a different studio.
