Cargo Plane Overruns Runway at Miami International Airport
A cargo aircraft operated by 21 Air overran the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, killing five people and injuring five others.
The plane, a 32-year-old Boeing 767, was attempting to land from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it crashed. The pilots had been removed from the aircraft and were being treated for injuries.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said there is no apparent threat to public safety at this time, but the scene remains active as fire rescue crews respond to a fuel leak.
The National Transportation Safety Board is gathering information about the crash, and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate. The FAA said the plane was traveling nearly 130 miles per hour when it left the usable portion of the runway.
