Carousel of Progress Gets Major Update with New Voices and Scenes
Walt Disney’s iconic Carousel of Progress is set for a major transformation, with the Magic Kingdom attraction reopening in late spring of 2027 after closing on July 6th. The updated version will feature an introduction by an Audio Animatronic Walt Disney, followed by scenes showcasing the American family through different decades of innovation. New additions include the 1969 moon landing, Halloween in the 1980s, New Year’s Eve in 1999, and a glimpse into a possible future.
The attraction will also welcome new voices for the family members, with Bryan Cranston and Disney Legend Jamie Lee Curtis voicing the mother and father. Debi Derryberry, previously the voice of daughter Sarah, will now voice the grandmother, adding a familiar touch to the updated show. Walt Disney Imagineering shared a behind-the-scenes look at the recording process, highlighting Derryberry’s contribution.
The Carousel of Progress originally debuted at the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair before moving to Disneyland and later to the Magic Kingdom in 1975. The last major update occurred in 1994, adding a futuristic scene. Fans of the classic attraction are excited to see the blend of homage to the original and the fresh elements being introduced.
