Carousel of Progress Reimagining Revealed Ahead of 2027 Reopening
Walt Disney’s iconic Carousel of Progress attraction, which closed on July 5, 2026, is set for a major reimagining and will reopen in late spring 2027. The attraction, originally debuted at the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair and moved to Magic Kingdom in 1975, has not seen a significant storyline update since 1994.
One of the most notable updates is the return of voice actress Debi Derryberry, who previously voiced the daughter Patricia in the 1994 version. She will now voice the Grandmother, creating a full-circle moment for Disney fans. Derryberry joins an impressive cast, including Emmy winner Bryan Cranston as Father and Disney Legend Jamie Lee Curtis as Mother.
Guests can get a sneak peek of the reimagined attraction at Walt Disney Presents in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, featuring costumes, character maquettes, and concept art. The updated show will introduce a new prelude with a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic, paying homage to the attraction’s origins.
The reimagined Carousel of Progress will take guests through four new eras: Act I (1969) featuring the Apollo 11 moon landing, Act II (1985) highlighting 1980s technology, Act III (1999) exploring the dawn of the internet, and Act IV, a futuristic vision of continued progress. The attraction will also retain its classic Sherman Brothers anthem, ‘There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow.’
