Carousel of Progress Returns in 2027 with Star-Studded Voice Cast
The iconic Carousel of Progress attraction at Walt Disney World’s Tomorrowland is set for a major overhaul, with a reopening planned for late spring 2027. The beloved revolving theater show, which first debuted at the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair and moved to Florida in 1975, is undergoing its most significant update in over three decades. The last major revision occurred in 1994, and fans have eagerly awaited news about its transformation since its closure on July 5, 2026.
One of the most exciting updates is the return of voice actress Debi Derryberry, who originally voiced the daughter Patty in the 1993 version. This time, she will take on the role of Grandmother, creating a full-circle moment for fans. Derryberry is renowned for her work as the voice of Jimmy Neutron and numerous other animated characters. She joins a star-studded cast that includes Bryan Cranston as Father and Jamie Lee Curtis as Mother.
Guests can get a sneak peek of the updated attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where a new exhibit showcases costume pieces, character sculpts, concept art, and scene dioramas. The exhibit also features a brand-new introductory scene with an Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney himself, paying homage to the attraction’s origins at the 1964 World’s Fair.
The updated show will feature four new eras: Act I (1969) during the Apollo 11 moon landing, Act II (1985) on Halloween night, Act III (1999) on New Year’s Eve, and Act IV in a distant future showcasing modern technology. The attraction will also feature fresh musical arrangements of the classic Sherman Brothers anthem “There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow.”
