Carousel of Progress to Reopen in 2027 with New Voices and Updates
Walt Disney World’s Carousel of Progress, a beloved attraction with a rich history dating back to the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair, is undergoing a major refurbishment. The updated version of this iconic ride is set to reopen in late spring 2027, marking its first significant update in decades. Among the changes is a new introductory scene featuring an Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney himself, announced during the August 2025 Destination D23 event.
The latest updates were revealed at the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where it was confirmed that Bryan Cranston and Jaime Lee Curtis will voice the Father and Mother characters in the reimagined attraction. Additionally, Debi Derryberry, known for voicing Jimmy Neutron, will return but in a different role as the Grandmother, a shift from her previous portrayal of Patricia.
Concept artwork and artifacts for the updated Carousel of Progress were showcased at Walt Disney Presents in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, offering fans a sneak peek at the upcoming changes. The ride, which holds the record as the longest-running stage show in American theater history, continues to captivate audiences with its nostalgic charm and innovative storytelling.
The upcoming updates have sparked excitement among Disney enthusiasts, with many eager to see how the classic attraction will evolve while staying true to its roots. The reopening in 2027 promises to bring a fresh experience to Magic Kingdom Park, blending modern technology with the timeless appeal of the Carousel of Progress.
