Caspian Airlines Plane Seized at Istanbul Airport Over €3 Million Debt
A Caspian Airlines Boeing 737 was seized at Istanbul Airport on September 29 due to an unpaid debt of approximately €3 million. Lawyers and bailiffs from ACM Temsil Gözetim, representing the creditor, served a seizure order as the plane prepared for departure.
The passengers and crew were removed from the aircraft and returned to the terminal. The airline, founded in 1993, is part of Iran's state aviation group and operates Boeing 737s on domestic and international routes, including to Istanbul.
Iranian carriers have faced financial difficulties due to US sanctions, which restrict access to aircraft, spare parts, maintenance services, and international financial systems. The ongoing war between the US and Iran has compounded these pressures, with Iranian airspace repeatedly disrupted and international routes curtailed.
