Caste Discrimination Follows Indian Diaspora to US Tech Industry
Caste discrimination has followed the Indian diaspora to the United States, affecting many Dalits who moved there to escape persecution.
A report by Equality Labs found that 67% of Dalit respondents felt they were treated unfairly at an American workplace due to their caste, with 41% experiencing discrimination in education and 25% reporting physical assault.
The tech industry has been under scrutiny for enabling caste-based discrimination, with major employers like Cisco Systems and Google facing lawsuits and allegations of bias.
Equality Labs received over 260 complaints from workers in the tech industry concerning caste bias after a lawsuit was filed against Cisco in July 2020.
