Caterpillar and FieldAI Collaborate on AI-Powered Quarry Operations

Caterpillar is joining forces with AI company FieldAI to advance the use of artificial intelligence in quarry operations. The collaboration, announced on September 2, aims to combine human expertise with AI-powered machines to improve safety, increase productivity, and optimize operations.

According to Caterpillar's chief technology officer Jaime Mineart, 'The future of our industries will be shaped by how effectively we combine human expertise with AI-powered machines.' The partnership will explore the application of AI in complex industrial environments, including autonomous inspections, real-time site monitoring, and operational optimization.

The companies have identified four initial areas for collaboration: autonomous inspections, jobsite and facility digital twins, enhanced situational awareness, and operational optimization through simulation, automation, and AI-driven insights. FieldAI's technology will be integrated with Caterpillar's engineering capabilities and operational data using NVIDIA accelerated computing and NVIDIA Omniverse technologies.

FieldAI founder and CEO Ali Agha noted that the company's technology is well-suited for industrial environments where conditions can be difficult to predict. 'Caterpillar has shaped operations on jobsites and manufacturing facilities for over a century, and these are exactly the environments FieldAI excels in,' he said.
